EMDR and Depression

Often, depression or anxiety are results of traumatic experiences.  These can be the dramatic kind of trauma, like sexual assault, war, car accidents, physical abuse and so on, but they can also be repeated--over time--experiences of neglect or shame.  When children grow up with parents who aren't attentive to their children's needs and feelings, or with parents who insult, glare at, laugh at, demean, diminish, put down, and otherwise shame their children, this creates symptoms of trauma in the children.  These symptoms often include depression and anxiety, and follow these children throughout their lives, unless they get effective intervention.  EMDR is very powerful in relieving the damage trauma can do.  In this way, EMDR can be very powerful in relieving depression and anxiety.
