Can you describe the EMDR process?

Your treatment will start with history, move on to a process called preparation and resourcing, and then move to trauma processing. During trauma processing, your therapist will ask you to focus on the disturbing material, and then apply bilateral stimulation, either with tones, taps, or eye movements. Your therapist will guide you through the processing. Your job is to report what you are experiencing along the way. You may feel a series of strong feelings and body sensations, or they may be more mild, but the result will be a new sense of freedom from the past.
